~ I can’t believe we’re still remote learning! Sincerely thought this would be a couple weeks...
~ As I mentioned, some new resources and login info was added to our Websites/Resources Page.
~ We are starting Math lessons next week!!! This will be in addition to the Reading groups we’ve been having.
~ We started to write "How-To Books"! The kids are enjoying this unit and I think they find it easier to write this genre than life stories. What is also atttributing to their success is that most have become turtle-talking experts and are stretching words like champions to write them well or correct, or almost correct.
~ Mrs. Joao and I appreciate your participation for those who were able to send in the donation money for the PTO Tricky Tray event. If you did not yet, please do so soon if you are planning to help out. Of course, we understand if you cannot.
~ So sorry I forgot to email parents, but those with last names Cardona to Patel, did not switch WEB books until today! Change is schedule just for this week. Sorry for any confusion.
~ Monday, March 9th, as you know is an early-release day. Please refer to an email from our superintendent from earlier this week, or refer to the Friday Folder below.
~ We started our "How-To Book" unit by listing things we could teach someone to do. Next week we will continue learning and practicing writing steps on how to do something we are good at.
~ In Math this week, we started to learn about coins and their values. Next week and the following, we will explore, play games about, and familiarize ourselves with the penny, nickel, dime and quarter.
~ It was very nice to sit and update on your kids and their growth and progress this week!
~ If you ever need or would like to know how your child is doing academically or socially, I am only an email away.
~ I look forward to updating you on your children's progress at Parent-Teacher Conferences next week! Since the conferences go so fast, please have anything you see relevant to discuss ready, so we use our time together most effectively : )
~ We need your help to support our awesome PTO! The due date for our classroom Themed "Art and Craft" basket is the end of February (changed from April 1st, as previously communicated). Mrs. Joao got only a few parent responses that prefer the 2nd option of donating $5. PLEASE take a minute to let her know what option would be more convenient for you. We appreciate your support, and your kids will surely benefit from the funds raised.

... Which Dr. Seuss book we read or that they read on their own is their favorite one!
... What we did with partners after we read Dr. Seuss's ABC Book, using a clipboard around the room.
... If they enjoyed the play, Aladdin put on by BC 5th graders on Wednesday.
... Which words we use at the beginning of each step of a "how-to book". (tell them to think of our five fingers)
... What type of "how-to book" did they start to write in Writer's Workshop!
... To sing the new coins song that starts, "We jingle and we jangle..."
... To tell you which coins we learned about so far, which president is on them and how much they are worth!
... What our heart pledge is that we say every day and what a wrinkled heart means.
... Which classroom job they had last week and which they hope to have next!
... To recite for you our sight word song that starts, "There was a sight word for the week,..."
... To tell you how we do our vowel chart every morning at Wall Work Time!
... Which app we use in Language Arts Center is their favorite! (LFO, Raz-Kids, Starfall, sight word games, etc.)
... How to remember the sounds sh, th, wh, and ch make, using the Fundations card picture.
... If they remember what their class book bag books are called or are about.
